Welcome to Year 5
Year 5 is an exciting year with many great topics and experiences.
The highlight for most year 5 pupils and teachers is year 5 camp. Children camp for the night on the school field and enjoy an action packed 24 hours of activities.
Another highlight is year 5 leading the Christmas carol concert at St. Mary’s Church, we retell the Christmas story in a creative and entertaining way to KS2 parents and pupils.
In year 5 we expect children to become more independent in their learning, particularly when it comes to homework.
There are many exciting topics and texts to enjoy in year 5, it is a fantastic year.
The Curriculum
The curriculum is broad, balanced and challenging - along with English and Maths we have many exciting topics.
History
History has three topics throughout the year: Anglo-Saxons; Ancient Greeks and World War 2. During our World War 2 topic, we have many great hands on experiences, including a fantastic visit to Newhaven Fort.
Geography
In our geography topics, we study Canada and Northern Ireland, taking the time to research about them, build on our map work skills and compare their similarities and differences.
RE
We have another amazing trip to the Darvell community, in Robertsbridge, as part of our R.E studies. We have the opportunity to experience their way of life first hand.
