The Curriculum

In the documents listed below, you will find our curriculum map, which outlines the topics and subject areas that your child will be learning about each term.

In addition to the classroom learning, each term we will provide optional topic homework. This will consist of different task suggestions to appeal to the varying learning styles of the children.

We are always looking for ways to enrich the children’s learning experiences even further, so if a parent/carer has any particular knowledge or skills that they would be happy to share with the children then please do let us know.

Reading

We encourage you to hear your child read at home at least 3 times a week. Please record any reading your child does at home in their reading record. Every child is given a ZPD based on their reading ability and we expect them to choose books within their ZPD. This will help the children to make the best possible progress. Children can change their book whenever they have finished it.

Spellings

Each term we will inform you of the spellings that your child will be working on in school. The children will not be given official spelling homework as much of the learning will be taking place within the classroom. However, any additional practice at home will be of extreme benefit to your child.

Times Tables Rock Stars

Each week the children will be set 15 minutes in the Garage section of TTRS. This will be monitored by their class teacher and certificates will be rewarded as the children progress. Children will also also have the opportunity to earn badges will also earn badges for reaching Rock Star, Rock Legend and Rock Hero.

Numbots

Numbots is an additional website (linked to TTRS) that every child in Year 3 can access. It is a great website, which enables children to practise their mental maths skills. We encourage children to spend at least 20 minutes a week to aid them with their progression in Maths. Children can access Numbots using the same login details as TTRS.
