Become A Governor...
Are you enthusiastic about education?
Have some spare time?
We’re currently looking for committed people who are not parents of children at the school to join the Battle and Langton C.E Primary School’s Governing Board as Associate governors.
What does a Governing Board do? The school’s Governing Board is responsible for:- Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction of the school
- Holding the school leaders to account for the educational and financial performance of the school
- Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure money is well spent
What we’re looking for
Contrary to popular thought – you don’t have to be a parent or connected to the school in some way to be a Governor. For the school, the main advantage is the expertise and experience you can bring to the role. Your knowledge of Finance, HR, Marketing, Legal, Project Management, Health & Safety, data analysis, IT etc can greatly improve the effectiveness of our Governing Board and have a positive impact on the education of our pupils.
What Governors get
A full induction process will be delivered from the outset and you will have direct access to a number of the current Governors (outside of the meetings) so you can ask questions or raise concerns. Governor training courses, run by ESCC, are available.
Experience tells us that our Governors not only make a difference to the school, but also gain personal and professional skills from the role.
For example:
- Strategic planning
- Experience on a board
- Holding senior leaders to account
- Finance, and maintaining oversight of potentially multi-million pound budgets
- Human resources and performance management
- Project management
- Marketing
- Communication and teamwork
- Decision making
What we require of Governors
In terms of time commitment, we expect that Governors will attend up to 6 meetings a year, which will take place in the evening and rarely last more than 2 hours. Occasional visits to see the school in action is preferred but not essential. ESCC suggests that Governors should be willing to commit between 5 and 8 hours a month in total.
If you would like to find out more about how you can contribute to governance at our school, or have any questions about anything, then please contact the Chair of Governors.
